Chad Finchum Has Successful 2011 Year of Growth in Motorsports
Tennessee Racer Looking Towards 2012 Season of Racing
The 2011 racing season was one of growth and gaining experience for Tennessee racer Chad Finchum. After a successful transition from Legends Car racing during the previous season to Late Models, Finchum spent the majority of the 2011 year in the big cars, making his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Overall, Finchum succeeded in his goal of gaining experience to continue moving towards his full-time career as a racer.
Finchum started off the 2011 season back in his Legends Car at Lanier National Speedway (GA), and then raced his Late Model at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) and Kingsport Speedway (TN). His previous season’s record in his Late Model and his style from behind the wheel caught the attention of NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team Troy Williams Racing.”
“Troy Williams called us one week from the Greenville-Pickens NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race,” said Finchum. “Their normal driver couldn’t make the event, so he wanted me to drive for him that weekend in the #12 TELMEX Dodge. It was an honor getting the phone call, and we made a great showing out of our first time in the series.”
Finchum qualified 13th in his first attempt in the series in April, but had to start at the rear of the field due to a mechanical issue with the car prior to the start of the race. He was able to work his way up through the field, finishing 18th.
After getting back into his #19 A-1 Finchum Heating and Cooling / Rheem Late Model, snagging two more wins at his home track of Newport Speedway (TN), Finchum was once again asked to drive for TWR in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, this time at the quarter-mile Bowman Gray Stadium (NC) track. Finchum qualified 25th and was able to wheel his car to a seventh-place finish. He was also awarded with the Coca-Cola Move of the Race Award.
His second start in the series was followed by a third at the fast Gresham Motorsports Park (GA), where he was able to wrestle his car to another seventh-place finish.
Overall during the year, Finchum had four starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, two of which earned him two seventh-place finishes. Also, he made multiple starts in the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Series as well as multiple local Late Model events, winning four races during the year.
“We had a great year,” explained Finchum. “Of course, as a racer, I always want more. But the competition gets tougher the higher up you go in this sport. We were able to win four races this year after winning one last year in the Late Model. Also we had a great time racing and learning in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.
I want to thank all of my sponsors for their support this year during all my events, including A-1 Finchum Heating and Cooling, Rheem, Carrier, East Tennessee Auto Outlet, Texas Roadhouse, Rudy Energy, Embassy Suites of Concord and Brickyard Bar-b-Que. I also want to thank my entire team, including Dinky, J.E., Junior, Wade, Tony, Brian, my family and everyone else for their support. Racing is a team sport, and I couldn’t have done this without them. I am really looking forward to the 2012 season of racing.”
Finchum will take a few-month break before getting prepared to race the 2012 season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East as well as various Late Model events across the south.
