Chad Finishes Third and Fourth in Late Model Double Features at Newport Speedway

After winning his first Late Model race in his second start, Chad Finchum returned to Newport Speedway (TN) on Saturday, October 2nd, to compete in the Limited Sportsman division double features.  After the checkered flag flew on both races, Finchum was able to snag two more top-five finishes in his early Late Model racing career.

After an inversion that put Finchum in the sixth starting position, Finchum raced his way to a third-place finish in the first race.

“About three or four laps into the race, we were passing for third, and the car was tight,” said Finchum.  “We made a little contact on the track and it cut the sheet metal into the tire, so we had to make a stop.  We went to the tail end of the field and were running second with a few laps to go.  We restarted on the outside and ended up third.”

Starting in the sixth position once again for the second race, Finchum was at a disadvantage to the rest of the field due to a tire issue, but still managed a fourth-place finish.

“In the second race, we had a pretty good car, but we weren’t able to change tires,” explained Finchum.  “We missed it in the driver’s meeting that if you wanted to change tires, you had to get them marked off.  So we were on old tires while everyone else had the new tires.  The car was loose and on edge the whole race.  I was able to get to fourth place.”
