Chad Finchum Gives Lanier a Second Shot and Meets Misfortune
Chad Finchum and his team traveled from their Tennessee home this weekend to Braselton, Georgia, to the Lanier National Speedway, where Finchum had only competed once before, to try his luck on the 3/8-mile racing surface.  Unfortunately, the only luck Finchum could find was sour, yet Finchum was still able to salvage a 13th-place finish in the feature event.

This race was Finchum’s first race back in the car since the conclusion of the Summer Shootout at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) and he was eager to get back going. Much to Finchum’s disappointment, he was met by only misfortune over and over again.

“I was so excited to be back on the racetrack after having a couple of weeks off,” said Finchum.  “This was only the second time I had been to Lanier.  My crew had worked hard on my car and it was really fast.  I had a feeling it would be a great race for us but luck wasn't on my side.

“During practice, oil was spilled over the track from a competitor and as I came around behind him, I hit the oil and into the wall I went.  It happened and there was nothing I could do.  It was a bad lick into the wall.”

After unloading their backup car, Finchum and his team hoped things would turn around, but that was not the case.

“We used our backup car and just a few laps into the race a competitor turned right on me and there was no place for me to go, so I ended up wheel-hopping and into the wall I went again.  I was really disappointed and I don’t think I have ever had two cars on a wrecker in one night.”

Finchum was not the only racer without a good luck charm on his side this weekend as several other competitors also found themselves in the same type of dreadful situations.

“The race was timed out and called after only six laps on the track,” commented Finchum.  “I guess the luck wasn't there for a lot of people.”

Next up for Finchum will be a trip on stage during the NASCAR race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA), where he will be announced to the fans as the Legends Young Lions Division Thursday Thunder Champion on Sunday, September 6th, prior to the NASCAR Cup Series event.
