Chad Finchum Wheels His Way to Top 10 at Winter Heat
Up-and-Down Day Ends with Seventh-Place Finish
A week after breaking his wrist on the road course at Lowes Motor Speedway (NC), Chad Finchum came back to settle the score. With the rains washing down the track, Finchum easily won the first of his two heat races in the Legends Young Lions division and looked to complete a memorable comeback in the feature, however it was not meant to be as Finchum finished seventh in the main event after a spin.
“It was a rough feature race because we had a dream of winning today,” said Finchum. “We were running up front and I made a move to pass on the outside. There was still a little water on the track and we got together with the #71 (Cody Blackburn). We ended up spinning and I had to go to the rear. I had to work my way back up to the front.”
Earlier in the day, Finchum's second heat race provided a bit of a scare for the team as a mechanical issue caused an incident that almost re-injured the racer.
“We were up to second and I was looking to make a move,” explained Finchum. “I let off the gas and the throttle hung. I went through the barriers, and when I did the wheel caught and turned my fingers in the wheel. It hurt them a little bit, but they where fine after the feature.”
Finchum will look to salvage a solid finish in the season's final standings with a victory next week at Lowes Motor Speedway on January 31st.
